To ensure thorough and quality study of Nigerias languages, linguistics, literatures and cultures, through conventional and modern technological approaches with a view to project, promote and preserve the specializations, for fostering developments in all spheres of life.

HISTORICAL BACKGROUND

The Department is situated in the Faculty of Arts, in the College of Humanities, Education and Law, Kaduna State University.

In its effort to develop Nigerian languages, Kaduna State University established the Department of Nigerian Languages and Linguistics at its inception for training manpower with a graduate qualification. The B.A. Hons (Hausa) came on board in the 2005/2006 session; of the Linguistics Programme at the B.A. Hons Level began during the 2019/2020 session; while the Postgraduate program (M.A Hausa) commenced in the 2017/18 session.

The Department took off with 13 students at 100 Level, and two lecturers. The Department now boasts of 21 lecturers out of which two are renowned Professors, three Associate Professors, and PhD holders.

The Department admits both local and international students. The Department of Nigerian Languages and Linguistics produces a Departmental journal, KADAURA (online and hardcopy).
