WELCOME

Dear Students,

On behalf of the Department of History, it is my pleasure to extend a warm welcome to you all as the Head of Department.

As you embark on your academic journey with us, you are joining a community of scholars dedicated to the exploration and understanding of the past. History is not just about memorizing dates and events; it is about uncovering the stories of humanity, analyzing their significance, and learning from the lessons of the past to shape our future.

In our department, you will have the opportunity to engage with a diverse range of topics, from ancient civilizations to modern revolutions. Our faculty members are passionate about their areas of expertise and are committed to helping you develop critical thinking skills, research

MISSION

To translate this vision into the mission, the Department provides an all-round education of the highest standard to the students through quality teaching, research, seminars, conferences, and workshops. Achieving the mission will add value to the graduates and enhance development and service to humanity.

VISSION

  • To produce graduates with quality training and character; a well-rounded knowledge of Nigeria’s history; a clear appreciation, based on critical thought, of how Nigeria, Africa, and the world are what it is; foster factors that could lead to development that enables peace and prosperity; develop critical minds, patriotic and nationalistic, imbued with political will for nation-building and development.
  • To produce graduates possessed of independent research capabilities, informed and educated, capable of contributing to national discourse.
  • To produce graduates capable of composing narratives on national issues.
  • To produce graduates capable of reproducing themselves.

HISTORICAL BACKGROUND

The Department is one of the pioneer ones when the university took off in 2005. As at 2023 it runs three programmes, viz: B.A (HONS.), M.A., and PhD. The current staff comprises of three Professors, three Associate Professors, three Senior Lecturers, and 10 others. 11 of the staff possess PhD. The department publishes two journals, Kaduna Journal of Historical Studies, and Kaduna Journal of Humanities.
